About Us

About Us

Café Together is part of The Shelter Project Hounslow (TSPH); a collective of west London churches that originally came together in January 2012 to provide respite care for rough sleepers over the harshest months of the winter. Today, we provide meals, company and assistance to people who need a little help. While some of our guests are homeless, many are just troubled or a little lonely. We provide a home cooked meal, a friend to talk to and hope we can help them a little in life’s journey.

History

TSPH launched Café Together in June 2022. Initially we are initially providing meals from one church, The Hounslow Methodist Church, but will expand this to other churches in west London. Pre-COVID, TSPH had run night shelters for homeless men in west London. With changed legislation for local councils having a duty to house the homeless and with guidelines still requiring self-contained accommodation for the homeless, TSPH had to adapt. The need for good company, a hot meal and some help when needed is very much part of the present, and in 2022 TSPH decided to open Café Together to support those in our community who need comfort, support or help.

Café Together Management

Café Together is managed by a TSPH Venue Coordinator at each location to provide support and advice.

TSPH launched Café Together in May 2022. Initially we are providing meals from one church, The Hounslow Methodist Church, but will expand this to other churches in west London. The need for good company, a hot meal and some help when needed is very much part of the present, and in 2022 TSPH decided to open Café Together to support those in our community who need help. Café Together and TSPH is run by volunteers in local churches who want to help across the community. We work alongside other agencies and charities in signposting guests to additional support. The entire project is overseen and governed by Trustees and a Steering Committee who are responsible for policies and their implementation, as well as strategy, fundraising and communication.

Purpose

This ecumenical project has its roots firmly in the desire to extend God’s love to all. Loneliness, financial worries and rough sleeping are still a major concern to far too many. Our volunteers aim to help those that need support. For many, the experience is deeply enriching as it unites God’s people to extend the love of Christ into meaningful action.

Purpose

Get Involved

Our volunteers are drawn from all walks of life and beliefs. Many are involved in local west London churches, across denominations, and freely give up their time to run Café Together.

The Shelter Project could not run without our volunteers and donors. We would be delighted if you decided to support us in one of these ways.

Welcoming our guests to Café Together
Cooking a hot, freshly prepared meal
Setting up our dining room
Conversing with our guests, listening to them and, where possible, helping them with their problems

These are just a sample of some of the roles you could do in any one evening. Volunteers are welcome for just one session a season or multiple depending on what you are willing to give. Contact us to find out where you can help.

Donations

The Shelter Project Hounslow receives funds from multiple sources, but has to rely on donations and fundraising events. If you would like to donate to the running of Café Together, you can donate here.

Just Giving

Prayer

The Shelter Project is a Christian project run by churches in Hounslow Borough, although we will take guests from any faith or none. As such we feel called to show the love that Jesus gave to others. One way you can do this is through prayer, please pray for our guests, volunteers, host churches and the project itself.
